Selmiye Alkan Gürsel is a Professor in the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences at Sabancı University, Istanbul, Türkiye, where she has been since 2008. She also serves as a Distinguished Researcher at the Sabancı University Nanotechnology Research and Application Center (SUNUM) since 2021. With over 25 years of experience, her research focuses on electrochemistry, nanotechnology, and sustainable energy solutions, including fuel cells, hydrogen production, and advanced battery systems.

She earned her B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. from Middle East Technical University (METU), Türkiye, and conducted postdoctoral research at the Paul Scherrer Institut in Switzerland (2003-2007) and METU (2002-2003). She has an h-index of 40 and 4479 total citations (Google Scholar) as of April 2026.
